Guruji Prof Laxmankumar's contributions to Research, Conferences and Publications
Guruji has contributed to research, publications and has given talks and presentations on various topics in Yoga during different Conferences at International, National and regional levels. Many of them are from pre-internet days, which rose awareness and help spread the message of Yoga in a scientific, practical way early on. Some of these contributions are listed below ‐
Research and Publications
- Utsahi 1966 and Utsahi 1968 are 2 issues of ‘Utsahi’, one of the earliest magazines in the World on Yoga! Prof. Laxmankumar edited and published ‘Utsahi’ Kannada Monthly devoted for Yoga and Culture for more than three years from 1966 to 1969.
- ‘Yogic treatment for Cardiac rehabilitation‘ authored by Prof. Laxmankumar and Dr. Zuikhin, Psychoneurologist in 1992. This is based on successful outcome of the collaboration of his Yoga teaching for the research project conducted at the 6th Central Military Hospital (Rehabilitation Centre) Moscow with Doctors there and Scientists from Physical Culture Scientific Institute Moscow, to study the effect of Yogic treatment on the rehabilitation of Cardio vascular patients (diseases). The medical doctors found the results effective beyond their expectations.
- ‘Hathapradipika’, a translation of Yogi Swathmaram’s book from Sanskrit into Kannada by Prof. Laxmankumar with Dr. Mallikarjun Paraddi in 1988. Used as a textbook at the Department of Yoga Studies at Karnatak University Dharwad, India.
- ‘Effects of Topsy turvy postures in Cardiovascular health‘ Prof. Laxmankumar guided a medical student on this topic towards the fulfilment of his MD requirements at Karnatak Medical College, Hubli India in 1988-89.
- ‘Effect of Yoga: A case study‘ Prof. Laxmankumar guided as Yoga expert for this project where through scientific experimentation and statistical calculations, the positive effects of Yoga on practitioners were established in 1988-89 in Karnatak University Dharwad.
- Paper ‘Effective Teaching of Yoga Practices’ was accepted for publication by the Yoga Research Society, Philadelphia, USA during November, 1975.
- ‘Yoga and Holistic health practices‘ Prof. Laxmankumar’s publication in 2007, the 1st edition was released in Milwaukee, USA. This is used as a reference book for the Yoga program at the Hindu Temple of Wisconsin, by the teachers trained under the guidance of Prof. Laxmankumar (Guruji). Guruji trained his students for the ‘Yoga and Holistic health’ program so they can get benefits from all aspects of Yoga. Guruji wrote this book to provide more details of various topics that he taught during his lessons – theory and practical aspects, literary aspects, scientific aspects etc.
- ‘Useful Yoga for daily practice‘ Prof. Laxmankumar created this Yoga chart back in the 1960s, so practitioners can use it as reference during their daily practice. This useful chart has been used as a reference at the Department of Yoga Studies at Karnatak University Dharwad, India and all Yoga programs run by Prof. Laxmankumar in India and abroad. The pictures on the chart are of Prof. Laxmankumar in different Yoga poses, actual photographs converted by hand by an artist in a format suitable for the Yoga chart, in those pre-advanced technology days.
- Text‐book for conducting Yoga Classes in U.S.S.R. (with Russian Co‐author,1991).
- Yoga for Cardiac Problems and other papers read at various International Conferences held in former U.S.S.R.
- Yoga and Holistic Health Practices book (2007) and articles in few publications in USA.
- Next edition of ‘Yoga and Holistic Health practices’ book is planned to be published in 2023.
- A PhD Research work done by Mrs. Tatiyana (Tanya) in Moscow on the topic ‘A comparative study of Laxmankumar’s system (method) of Teaching of Yoga with 2 other internationally known Indian and foreign Yoga experts’ established that Laxmankumar’s method of teaching is the best (most effective) amongst all the three.
- Conducted a research project titled “To study the effects of Yoga practicals on improvement of the general health” at N.C.C., Embassy of India Moscow (former U.S.S.R.) from June 1991 to May 1992
- A short‐term research project was conducted at the post graduate Gymkhana, Karnatak University, Dharwad to study the effects of Yoga practices subjectively. Subjective evaluation of effects showed excellent results in improving the health of the trainees.
Conferences and Conventions
- Unity in Yoga: Delivered key note Address at 10 am on 3rd October, the First Soviet‐ American Unity in Yoga Conference held at the Institute of Engineers (Architects) Mission, from 3rd to 10th October, 1990 organized by center for Soviet‐American Dialogues.
- Was a guest speaker and spoke on the “the qualification and qualities of Yoga Teachers”
on 6th October 1990 at the International Yoga Conference held at Moscow State
University from 6th to 8th October 1990. - At the world Conference on Yoga and Research held at Vijnana Bhavan, New Delhi from
19th to 23rd December 1970. - At a similar conference on Transcendental Meditation (T.M.) held at Sagar University ,
Madhya Pradesh on 22.12.1977. - “A Case Study of Some Patients Treated by Yogic Method” was presented in the
International Conference held at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi held from 22nd to
24th March, 1984 organized by the joint efforts of Indian Academy of Yoga, Institute of
Medical Sciences and Yoga Sadhana Kendra of Banaras Hindu University. - A similar paper, “The case studies of some other patients treated by Yogic Method” was
presented at the International Conference on Yoga held on 8th and 9th March, 1984 at
Bangalore. - Gave presentation at the VSNA international Convention in Chicago USA 2009
- Presided over and delivered concluding remarks at the Navika World convention in Cincinnati USA 2019
- Presided over and delivered concluding remarks at International Yoga Conference organized by Utsahi Yoga Foundation on the occasion of International day of Yoga in June 2020 and in June 2021
