• Platinum Jubliee celebration (75 years) of Laxmankumar’s selfless Yoga service on the heels of 75 years of India’s Independence is a proud moment – At a young age of 12, Laxmankumar learnt Yoga from his teacher. He started spreading awareness and message of Yoga that young by giving demonstrations in village schools and gatherings. Due to poor financial situation & lack of amenities, he went from 1 village to another on foot, just to carry on his mission of propagating Yoga. This yearn gradually took him to towns & big cities. From Ranebennur to Dharwad, Bengaluru, Pune, Pondicherry, Mumbai, New Delhi to Moscow, Kiev, Odessa, Leningrad, London, Milwaukee, Dayton, Texas & many other places across continents! After retirement, he has continued his service in the field of Yoga even now at the age of 88 – touring to teach, give consultations & talks in India & USA, has even adapted to online teaching at this age! Truly this Yoga Professor’s attitude is age-defying & passion for Yoga teaching is endless. In his own words, he wishes to continue his Yoga service till his last breath.
• FREE & unbiased service – He has taught Yoga free of cost for all class of people in the society, for all age groups, for men & women. His tremendous selfless service has benefitted common man & people from various professions/walks of life in their physical fitness & mental wellbeing like Doctors, Officers, scientists, Judicials, Advocates, Military personnel, Police, Dancers , Actors, Politicians, Writers, Pregnant women, Senior citizens, Mental patients, Criminals to adapt to good living etc.
• Visionary & Pioneer in field of Yoga – It is amazing to know that Laxmankumar was ahead of his times by introducing concepts prevalent in modern times way back in the 1950s and 1960s. Yoga magazine to spread awareness, Yoga chart as reference for daily practice, using enrollment form to learn about practitioner’s health, personalized training sessions, scientific approach to teaching Yoga, mass public sessions, 1-on-1 sessions, Yoga training for different professions, Yoga for women’s health, Yoga for seniors etc.
• Effective & personalized teaching – He teaches based on individual’s health condition. His teaching is scientific & research oriented. A study was conducted in Moscow, former USSR on his teaching methodology in comparison with 2 other popular Yoga Gurus. The results demonstrated that Laxmankumar’s methodology is most effective, giving excellent benefits to the practitioners. His style of teaching is unique & personalized. Focuses on breathing & relaxation more, which have been proven scientifically to reduce disorders & promote well-being of an individual.
• Ability to connect with people – He has a panache to teach Yoga to everyone – children or Senior citizens, people from different backgrounds, cultures etc. After he started teaching Yoga in Moscow, a ‘Yoga craze’ swept throughout former USSR, in Russia & all other Republics! There were 1000s of Yoga enthusiasts in waiting list for his classes. He was the first foreigner to be given special permission to teach Yoga on communist National TV via USSR TV which reached 8 million viewers! He was called a TV hero. Many travelled to Moscow to learn from him every week from different republics & many invited him to conduct Yoga Classes in their republics. Every place he has rendered Yoga service to, he has worked tirelessly 7 days a week making a huge impact socially and contributing to the field of Yoga! He is indeed a 1-Man army!
• Variety of Yoga programs – He has conducted various workshops, seminars, special lectures, lecture-cum-demonstrations, exhibitions & conferences on different aspects of Yoga. Exceptional work in introducing various Yoga courses at Karnatak University Dharwad & other institutes: One year Certificate course in Yoga, 1 year P.G. Diploma in Yoga, 2 years Masters MA, Yoga as one subject at college level for BA , BSc, B Com, Yoga Pravesha course of different durations etc.
• Yoga in a time of need – Laxmankumar started first online FREE international Yoga sessions in the World when the Pandemic began. Many others followed suit much later. He also conducted First online International Yoga conference during COVID with various experts across the globe. It has been Laxmankumar’s nature to attend to the weakest students in class or those with weak health in the society and find ways to help them learn Yoga which is most effective for them.
